Why does the sea ruin jewelry?

As we have already mentioned, salt is a harmful substance for most materials. That's not all, however: swimming or diving in the water can also help ruin them. In fact, the force of the movement imparted by the body while swimming causes a collision with that of the water, which could weaken the structure of bracelets and rings.

These, in doing so, may soften and lose their grip even on the gemstones set in them.

How to remedy the contact of a jewel with the sea?

If you couldn't resist and got a piece of jewelry wet, as soon as you get out of the water you can rinse it with cold fresh water and dab it with a dry piece of cloth, taking care to remove all the grains of sand as well.

Once back home, it will be best to place it under warm running water and gently scrub it with a soft toothbrush, then let it dry carefully.

These remedies are not effective in the case of gemstones and stones, which, instead of being soaked, should simply be wiped dry with a soft, dry cloth.

More generally, to keep your jewelry always shiny, you should avoid keeping it in a damp area of the house such as, for example, the bathroom since moisture accelerates the oxidation of metals.
